Founder and Managing Partner
Tim is the Founder of and Managing Partner of AlphaMundi Group since 2008, and based in Geneva, Switzerland. He is also Chairman of the Board of AlphaMundi’s SocialAlpha Investment Fund (SAIF) in Luxembourg, the Treasurer of AlphaMundi Foundation in Washington DC, and Chairman of the Investment Committee of the AlphaJiri Fund in Mauritius. Tim previously worked at UBS Wealth Management where he became a founding member of UBS Philanthropy Services for UHNWI clients. He also spent time in Bolivia, assessing microfinance programs on behalf of the Swiss Development Agency, and with WWF International as an advisor on major donors. Tim holds a Degree in Political Science from the University of Geneva and a Private Banking Diploma from UBS, and is fluent in French, English and Spanish.
Lisa Scheible Willems
Lisa Willems is a Managing Director at AlphaMundi and based Washington DC. She joined the company in 2013 as Director for African Investments. Following a move from Switzerland to the US in 2015, she started and currently manages the Group’s US operations. She created and presides the AlphaMundi Foundation in 2016 in Washington DC, and secured the initial funding from USAID. She also sits on the Investment Committee for SAIF-Bastion. Beyond her AlphaMundi activities, Lisa sits on the investment committee of Illumen Capital, a private equity impact fund-of-funds launched in 2018, and she teaches impact investing as an adjunct professor at American University. Prior to AlphaMundi, Lisa was Director of Investments at the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation where she was a member of a three-person team responsible for overseeing all aspects of management of the USD 600M endowment and played an integral role in building a new investment process. In the impact investing space Lisa has worked with the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, an emerging market fund of funds sponsored by the US Government and Grassroots Business Fund, an impact investment fund in Washington, DC. Beyond her investing experience she spent four years working as a management consultant in New York predominantly at Oliver Wyman. She holds BAs in Economics and Public Policy from Duke University and an MBA from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business.
Marlene (Carvajal) Hormes, CFA, is a Managing Director at AlphaMundi based in Nairobi, Kenya. Marlene is an investment professional with 20 years of experience who joined us from DEG, Europe’s largest development finance institution, where as Vice President she led teams of professionals throughout the various stages of investing – from sourcing deals to due diligence, structuring and legal documentation to asset management – for a multi-sector private-equity and mezzanine portfolio totaling USD 180M. She held additional roles at DEG in the areas of debt restructuring, infrastructure investments, and impact investment targeting early-stage social enterprises. Her regional experience spans both Africa and Latin America. For the last 5 years, Marlene has been an Investment Committee member for Alphamundi’s SocialAlpha Investment Fund (SAIF). She has also been an Investment Committee member for Alphamundi’s AlphaJiri Fund since inception in December 2019. She has served as a member of the Board of Directors of both public and private companies in the education, real estate, and infrastructure sectors, and as an Advisory Board member to a number of private equity and mezzanine funds in developing markets. Before joining DEG, Marlene was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York, responsible for over USD 5B of investments in bonds, derivatives, and stocks, primarily in the US telecom and media sectors. She has a B.A. in Economics from Boston College and earned the Chartered Financial Analyst Designation in 2005. Marlene speaks English, Spanish and German fluently.
Christine is the Executive Director for the AlphaMundi Foundation, based in Washington, D.C., USA. Previously, she was an internal strategy consultant with the United Nations Foundation (UNF), where she co-led an organization-wide systems and business processes review and developed recommendations to improve operational efficiencies. In her role, she also led the compliance, procurement, finance and operational start-up for new initiatives hosted at the Foundation. Prior to joining UNF, Christine worked as a Program Manager at ACDI/VOCA, where she oversaw a $48 million portfolio of agriculture supply chain development programs. She has relevant experience in Mali, Kenya, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Peru, and Jamaica. Christine holds a BA in International Relations from the College of William and Mary and an MBA from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. She speaks English, Spanish and conversational Arabic.
David is a Director at AlphaMundi based in Nairobi, Kenya. He joined the company in 2014 to start the Nairobi office and work on the investment process. He heads the team in Nairobi and responsible for partnerships, pipeline development and portfolio management. He previously worked at Abraaj Group as an Associate, where he was instrumental in the implementation of a Fund Accounting and Portfolio Management ERP, and also worked in the investment department as a portfolio analyst. Prior to joining Abraaj, he was working in a corporate finance firm focusing on small and medium enterprises. David holds a Bachelor of Education in Economics and Mathematics from Moi University and is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA) from Strathmore University. He is currently pursuing an MBA in Finance and Strategic Management from the United States International University – Africa (USIU) and has passed Level I of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Program.
José Darío Lozano
José Darío Lozano is a Colombian professional with 11 years of experience in the local financial sector. Before joining Alphamundi, José worked for 6 years in Alianza Fiduciaria & Alianza Valores (a Colombian top asset manager and Brokerage Company). In Alianza, he structured fixed income, real estate, and alternative investments mutual funds and voluntary pension portfolios, led the business intelligence team in charge of developing internal KPIs and external market research, and preceded the equity research unit responsible for valuating companies listed in the Colombian Stock Exchange. Prior to Alianza, José worked for 1.5 years in Corpacero (metal mechanics producer) as a financial planning analyst. During that period, he restructured long-term debt obligations with local banks, prepared the annual budget of the company, and valuated Corpacero’s plastic business line as part of a selling transaction with a key competitor. Before working in Corpacero, José worked 4 years in Genesis Banca de Inversión as an investment bank senior analyst. In the investment bank, he participated in several project finance deals and companies’ valuations including a loan to a bus operator of Transmilenio (Bogota’s public transport system), a loan to the owner of an optic fiber submarine cable located in the Colombian coast, and the valuation of an agribusiness company.
José holds a Master’s degree in business administration from IE Business School in Madrid, Spain and a Bachelor’s of Industrial Engineering from Los Andes University in Bogotá, Colombia. He is a native Spanish speaker and a proficient English speaker.
Judith Santbergen is a Manager at AlphaMundi, based in Nairobi, Kenya. Judith has over 13 years of experience in commercial banking, corporate finance, restructuring, and impact investing. Before joining AlphaMundi in April 2019, she has worked as a senior investment officer in the Africa team of Triodos, a leading impact investor. She was responsible for sourcing debt and equity investments in inclusive finance, renewable energy and sustainable food and agri in the region. Prior to that she worked in various roles for Rabobank, one of the leading Dutch banks with a strong focus on agri and SMEs. Judith holds a MA in Social Sciences and MSc in Business Administration from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam.
Jimena Quiroz, CFA, is a Senior Associate at AlphaMundi in Bogota, Colombia. Jimena has over 4 years of corporate credit risk and global markets experience, and close to 4 years of experience in the Private Equity and Venture Capital Sectors. Prior to joining AlphaMundi, Jimena completed a voluntary program as an Investment Associate with Accion International´s Venture Lab, where she provided support to the fund´s deal activity in Latin America in innovative fintech startups promoting financial inclusion. Before that, Jimena worked as an associate at the Private Equity Unit of Mercantil Colpatria, one of Colombia´s biggest financial groups, contributing to buyout due-diligence processes. Jimena also worked for over 4 years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch Mexico, first as a corporate credit analyst and then as a corporate sales senior analyst. Jimena holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University in Montreal, an MBA from IE University in Madrid and is a CFA charterholder. She speaks Spanish and English.
Lina is an Associate at AlphaMundi, based in Bogotá, Colombia. Lina has over 5 years of experience working as a financial consultant focused on performing due diligence and financial valuations for M&A processes at PwC Colombia. During her years at PwC, Lina advised different types of clients, ranging from family businesses to large corporations, and from different sectors, including dairy products, pharmaceutical, and energy, among others. Prior to joining AlphaMundi, Lina was working at Prismapar, an investment bank focused on the education sector, where she had the opportunity to work in transactions with education institutions in Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil, and also started to develop the healthcare practice in Colombia. Lina is an Industrial Engineer from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, has a specialization in Corporate Finance from CESA and recently completed an MBA at ESADE (Barcelona, Spain).
Sebastián is an Investment Analyst at AlphaMundi, based in Bogotá, Colombia. Sebastián previously worked at Campo Capital, an agriculture and forestry asset and project management company as a Financial Analyst. Here he provided support in the development of consultancies and new projects, as well as financial analysis and market research for the company’s greenfield eucalyptus, cacao, and basil projects. He has experience in the development of a financial model, business plan, and market analysis for the establishment of two agroforestry systems of non-timber forest products (achiote, açaí, and sacha inchi) and native timber species. Likewise, he contributed to the development of a business plan for the potential construction and installation of a medium-density particleboard and fiberboard wood-based panel plant in Meta, Colombia. He also advised in the creation of a REDD+ forestry management operations business company in reserved and protected areas in Piura, Peru, focused on the development of agroforestry plantations on lands of native communities, issuance of carbon credits, and forest regeneration. Before that, Sebastián worked at British American Tobacco as an Intern for the Operations Finance area for the South American and Caribbean cluster, mainly focused on the financial planning and reporting of the operations and supply chain areas of Colombia, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. He developed a cost-analysis benchmark tool of cigarette components for 32 countries of the Americas.
Throughout his college studies, he worked as a consultant for ATA Electric, an energy management company and at Multicomercio S.A.S, a recycling company. Likewise, he finished his thesis on the impact of the Colombian armed conflict on financial inclusion levels. Finally, he worked as a volunteer for FIDES, a foundation for people with cognitive impairment and Down syndrome. Sebastián holds Business Administration and Economics degrees from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia. He speaks Spanish and English.
Ashley Quigley is a Program Analyst at the AlphaMundi Foundation. She reports to the Executive Director and provides administrative and program support. Prior to her start at the AlphaMundi Foundation, Ashley worked as a Program Associate at the Public International Law and Policy group. She is also the Co-Founder and Vice President of the non-profit organization Hope’s In, which helps families living in communities around the Guatemala City garbage dump. Ashley is passionate about international development and has volunteer experience Guatemala, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic. She holds a BA in International Relations from IE University in Madrid, Spain, and speaks fluent English, Spanish, and basic French.
Alexis Piérard is a Consultant at AlphaMundi, based in Geneva, Switzerland. He joined the company in April 2020 to help with legal matters related to the company’s international expansion and to the SocialAlpha fund in Luxembourg, and to do a case study on the balance of shareholder and creditor interests in recent SME restructurings in Emerging Markets. Previously, he worked as an analyst for a soft commodities trading company operating in Argentina. He conducted market research to develop the Argentine market. Back in Geneva, he joined Quest Partners, an investment banking boutique focused on private equity investments in distressed companies. As an investment analyst, he participated in equity and debt transactions and due diligence processes. In addition to his work with AlphaMundi, he is part of a community of analysts who share accurate objective assessments on the global impact of multinational companies’ activities. Alexis is currently completing a CAS in Sustainable & Impact Investing at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies. Alexis is fluent in French, English, Italian and Spanish and holds a Master’s in Law from the University of Geneva and the University of Utrecht.
Loïc Voisot is doing a fellowship at Alphamundi Group in Switzerland, from May to November 2020. Loïc is assisting with the audit process and investor relations. He is undertaking this fellowship as part of a gap year in his Master’s degree in Economics at Université Paris Dauphine. He speaks French, English and conversational Spanish.
Public Affairs Officer
Cecilia Serin is the Head of Relations for Europe at AlphaMundi based in Geneva. Cecilia has more than 10 years of experience as a relations and projects manager, especially in the field of Sustainable Finance. Recently, she was the head of members’ relations for the Geneva-based Financial Centers for Sustainability (FC4S), a partnership between UNEP, UNDP and the financial sectors to mobilize more capital towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She represented FC4S in the Organizing Committee of Building Bridges, the Swiss initiative aimed at accelerating the finance industry’s contribution to the achievement of the UN’s 17 SDGs. Prior to that, Cecilia spent 4 years at the World Economic Forum working on a new way to measure “Sustainable Competitiveness”, managing a group of 14 international experts. Cecilia also worked at UNEP Finance Initiative as the Global Roundtable Coordinator, in charge of delivering a 3 days event for 500 people in Washington DC. Cecilia speaks French and English and holds a BSc in Business Administration from the International University of Monaco, a MSc in International Development from the London School of Economics, as well as a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Corporate Social Responsibility from the University of Geneva.
Nora von Wintersdorff
Nora von Wintersdorff is a Fellow at AlphaMundi, based in Europe. Nora obtained her Master’s diploma in Business and Development Studies at the Copenhagen Business School, with a special focus on strategy, management and sustainable development related to emerging markets. She dedicated her Master’s thesis to the hurdles impact investors are confronted with in Latin America and how to overcome them. She moreover holds a Certificate for Entrepreneurship and Private Sector Development from Makerere University Business School in Kampala, Uganda. Previously, Nora lived in Latin America for 3.5 years. She speaks German, English and Spanish, and holds a BSc in Business, Language and Culture from the Copenhagen Business School.
