Founder and Managing Partner
Tim is the Founder of and Managing Partner of AlphaMundi Group since 2008, and based in Geneva, Switzerland. He is also Chairman of the Board of AlphaMundi’s SocialAlpha Investment Fund (SAIF) in Luxembourg, the Treasurer of AlphaMundi Foundation in Washington DC, and Chairman of the Investment Committee of the AlphaJiri Fund in Mauritius. Tim previously worked at UBS Wealth Management where he became a founding member of UBS Philanthropy Services for UHNWI clients. He also spent time in Bolivia, assessing microfinance programs on behalf of the Swiss Development Agency, and with WWF International as an advisor on major donors. Tim holds a Degree in Political Science from the University of Geneva and a Private Banking Diploma from UBS, and is fluent in French, English and Spanish.
Marlene (Carvajal) Hormes, CFA, is a Managing Director at AlphaMundi based in Nairobi, Kenya. Marlene is an investment professional with 20 years of experience who joined us from DEG, Europe’s largest development finance institution, where as Vice President she led teams of professionals throughout the various stages of investing – from sourcing deals to due diligence, structuring and legal documentation to asset management – for a multi-sector private-equity and mezzanine portfolio totaling USD 180M. She held additional roles at DEG in the areas of debt restructuring, infrastructure investments, and impact investment targeting early-stage social enterprises. Her regional experience spans both Africa and Latin America. For the last 5 years, Marlene has been an Investment Committee member for Alphamundi’s SocialAlpha Investment Fund (SAIF). She has also been an Investment Committee member for Alphamundi’s AlphaJiri Fund since inception in December 2019. She has served as a member of the Board of Directors of both public and private companies in the education, real estate, and infrastructure sectors, and as an Advisory Board member to a number of private equity and mezzanine funds in developing markets. Before joining DEG, Marlene was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York, responsible for over USD 5B of investments in bonds, derivatives, and stocks, primarily in the US telecom and media sectors. She has a B.A. in Economics from Boston College and earned the Chartered Financial Analyst Designation in 2005. Marlene speaks English, Spanish and German fluently.
Director of the Board of the AlphaJiri Investment Fund
Mehboob Madhavji is a Director of the Board of the AlphaJiri Investment Fund in Mauritius since 2019, and the non-executive Co-Founder of AlphaMundi Group Ltd in Switzerland since 2007. Born in Zanzibar, Mehboob received in 1981 a Bachelor in Arts in Economics and Consular Sciences from Belgian Business University, ICHEC, Brussels. He started his career with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brussels, acting as an Economic Advisor for several sub-Saharan African countries. He joined Citibank in 1984 as an Investor Relationship Manager. In 1990, he actively contributed to the creation of Citibank Private Bank in Luxembourg and successfully implemented a wealth management strategy for the Group.
In 1999, Mehboob relocated to Geneva, becoming Managing Director and Council Chairman for Citigroup, while continuing to manage sophisticated European private and institutional clients. After 21 years spent with Citibank, Mehboob decided to join UBS Wealth Management in 2005 as Key Client Advisor for Western European markets. In 2009, aware of the rise of a new financial paradigm, Mehboob partnered in the entrepreneurial project of the creation of Banque Pâris Bertrand Sturdza, in Geneva.
He is currently Managing Director and Head of Impact Investing at Banque Paris Bertrand SA, serving Family Offices, Foundations and Wealthy families. With a multicultural background, Mehboob is fluent in French, English and Dutch and based in Geneva.
